In the first weeks of the COVID-19 pandemic, businesses across the globe hunkered down, cutting costs where they could and scrambling to stay afloat. It was quite the finale to the first quarter of 2020. But now, as we’re wading into Q4, something has changed. We haven’t eradicated COVID yet, and most of us aren’t back in our offices. But businesses have come out of that initial defense and stabilization mode, and they’re looking for ways to continue serving their customers, bringing in revenue, and building the momentum they’ll need to remain competitive when the economy rebounds.

With companies like Google, Twitter, Facebook, and others announcing that they intend to let their employees work from home indefinitely, it’s becoming clearer and clearer that remote work is likely to become more than just a pandemic-induced trend. In fact Global Workplace Analytics has recently found that 77 percent of the workforce says they want to keep working from home at least a day or two per week once the pandemic is over.
As employees scattered from their workplaces to their home offices in March, many businesses went into a sort of “emergency mode,” doubling down just to keep the gears turning. But now that we’ve all had some time to acclimate to this “new normal” and uncover best practices for general business operations, it’s time to reintroduce a critical activity that may have gotten lost in the initial shuffle: learning and development.

With More University Classes Online than Ever, How Can Educators Prepare Their Students for Real-World Success?
When the pandemic shuttered schools in mid-March, educators from kindergarten through graduate school went into emergency mode, shifting to synchronous and asynchronous distance learning as fast as possible. Now, as we head into the fall semester, schools have had the opportunity to catch their breath and think through not only how to teach online at all, but how to provide the quality education students expect from in-person classes under the new, hybrid and remote models they’ve adopted in an effort to continue flattening the curve.

When COVID-19 first emptied workplaces and sent employees scattering to their home offices, the question on company leaders’ minds was, “How do we communicate virtually?” But as we’ve become accustomed to videoconferences and cleared the initial hurdles of remote work, leaders are revising the question, asking not only how to communicate virtually, but how to do so exceptionally.

For the foreseeable future, at least, it seems video communication is here to stay.
In a recent survey we conducted with Harvard Business Review (HBR), 86 percent of respondents said they are satisfied with their communication via video conference, and 70 percent anticipate using video conferencing the same amount as today or more, even after social distancing guidelines are lifted.
Whether you’re taking Zoom calls from your dedicated home office or from the far end of your dining room table, chances are good you’ve spent some time experimenting with lighting, computer camera positioning, fancy backgrounds, and more to try to achieve the perfect setup for every video call. Here at Quantified, we’ve been experimenting, too, but we’ve also been talking with communication experts and conducting surveys to identify what works best in terms of engaging audiences, building trust, and getting your point across on video.
